Jonathan Ross - the tv celebrity and author of several books on TV and media, has long been associated with toys. I first heard about his amazing collection when I was part of the Facebook group which covered Micronauts and Microman figures. John's collection is probably the most complete in the world (at least outside of Japan) and includes all manner of prototypes, store displays and rare items from a huge range of vintage space toys, including Thunderbirds, Matt Mason, Microman and virtually all other related toys. This video shows him giving a guided tour round his dedicated storehouse of treasures! See what you can spot!
At 35.40 you can see a gorgeous Micronauts painting John had commissioned from Frank Frazetta's student artist Ken Kelly. John had a number of high quality prints made from the piece and very kindly sent me one in response to my photographic work on Micronauts and he even has a copy of my Blurb book, 'Micro Macro'!
Fabulous video that Bill! Incredible collection, the man cave of all man caves. I enjoyed Theo's tour and learnt a lot. Towards the end I saw the unproduced Orbitor from Major Mat Mason! And the Ancient Mariner was filming no less, of UK Ebay. We'll done getting that print and kudos getting your book in Jonathan's fabulous stash. It has to be one of the best toy collections in the world.
ReplyDeleteJonathan Ross accidentally stepped on me once, in a comic shop in Camden Town.
ReplyDeleteI had kneeled down to look at some movie books on a bottom shelf, next to him, and he inadvertantly stepped back onto my ankle.
" Oh, sowwy mate !" He said.
"Thats OK." I replied, as it hadn't hurt.
Thanks for sharing, Bill. A grand tour both utterly breathtaking and a bit frustrating as so many interesting items went past so quickly. I hope the guys get to go back and make more profound videos on some rare toy lines.
ReplyDeleteI'm always left in wonder about the logistics of amassing a collection of that scale - to think about the time and effort put into it!
Just watching it now, Bill. Loving his incredible Takara Henshin Cyborg and Walder figures. Fantastic collection.
