This figure is all new to me.
Atomic Man by Airfix of Germany.
Alas, the toy itself looks nothing like the Aquamanesque super hero shown on the box art. Yet, there he is, the silver overalled figure photographed on the rear. How strange
Anyone know this man?

He's nothing like the official Action Man 'Atomic Man', which Palitoy produced in response to Kenners Bionic Man. https://www.actionmanhq.co.uk/figures/atomic-man/index.php
ReplyDeleteCould be they fell foul of copyright and he only appeared in Germany, although how come his name isn't in German? Bill
In German it would be Atom Man. Maybe that's why 😂
DeleteHilarious! He looks like a day worker at a nuclear reactor! Maybe that's why he's "Atomic"? SFZ
ReplyDeleteHa ha, he does SF! He's got that Every Day's a Meltdown look about him!
DeleteAnother rabbit hole!
ReplyDeleteAction Man had an "Atomic Man" figure "loosely based" on Kenner's $6M man.

Here's a boxed example asking €450!

And a link giving the manufactuter's name as Plasty-Airfix but annoyingly no other usable information!

Fascinating Looey, thanks.
DeletePlasty-Spielzeug was a West German toy company, founded in 1948. From 1954 they distributed Airfix plastic kits and toys. Many had a combined Plasty Airfix logo. According to one book I have, Airfix bought a controlling interest in Plasty in 1975. Plasty also made a Barbie-inspired doll called Petra, but then Barbie had been 'inspired' by another German doll.
ReplyDeleteWhich was called Lili, originally an offer from Bild ( meaning picture) newspaper, hence the modern collectors term for the original Barbie inspiration as Bild lili.
