I'm just rewatching John Carpenter's The Thing.
It's such a great film. OK it's basically a remake but I've never understood why it didn't become the revered Sci Fi giant that say Alien or Predator became.
Not even a franchise.
Anyone got any ideas?

Maybe because
ReplyDeleteIt was hard to market/make
Toys action figures etc.
Although i have a couple of 28mm miniatures of two of the main
Characters.Its
2011 prequel
Was alas also
Underated in my
Opinion.
I didn't know about the prequel. I'll have to look out for that. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteIf you're unaware of this show, imagine the 66 Batman mixed with the Monkees and Scooby Doo😁
Ive also emailed the above link if the above doesn't play
ReplyDeleteThere was an abortive attempt to make an action figure line in 1982, but as the film was such a gore-fest, kids couldn't watch it and relate to the film, so they never made it off the drawing board. The prequel is excellent and takes advantage of cgi fx as well as mechanical and tells the story from the POV of the original Norwegian expedition to find the creature. Unfortunately, its rather unimaginatively titled 'The Thing'. doh. Bill
ReplyDeleteI must watch that prequel. It's odd tho, ALIEN and Predator were gory and they got toys and games. Even Terminator did. So what's wrong with The Thing?
DeleteIt doesnt have a specific body, its an organism that
ReplyDeleteAbsorbs and mutates into different creatures. None of which are particularly on the screen for long and quite frankly horrible
Looking.
It could have been a connectable set like Make your Own Blair Monster. Action figures would have good too. Are there any Kurt Russell figures anywhere from any of his films?
DeleteYes reaction make a big trouble in little china set of figures and others.
ReplyDeleteReally. Another film I've never seen.
