That’s funny you mention the Christmas motif, as it was not conscious, but that cone-structure sure does look like a Christmas Tree, and I just decided to add a shining star for flavor! SFZ
A great scene, which could be re-created in model form with the Amoeba kit from Superior Plastics/Educational Products/Lindberg/Atlantis. The mountains in the background also remind me of the film, The Monolith Monsters.
Those buildings remind me of the dead city in a Russian 60's film... Was it First Spaceship on Venus or Planet of Storms? Either way, your painting has that lovely retro space age vibe, that could grace a tin wind-up toy box!
Aha! That cone-building is a direct ripoff of a similar structure in Planet of Storms, aka First Spaceship on Venus, one of my favorite SF films. Good eye! SFZ
Super painting SF. There's another weird cone on this American Tarheel toys catalogue cover MOONBASE CENTRAL: EXCLUSIVE! TARHEEL AMERICAN PROJECT SWORD TOYS CATALOGUE https://share.google/tWV6skAfiyW8QYNrT
Lovely work SFZ, and do I detect a Christmas motif here (with what looks like a Christmas tree, a church, and a Star of David ) ?

DeleteI agree, superb painting SF! If I had a band I'd want you as the cover artist!
ReplyDeleteI’ve always admired record cover artists, but way out of my league, frankly. SFZ

Interesting Paul.
ReplyDeleteI saw those background structures as some sort of buildings, or a cathedral type thing.
They were intended to be artificial monolith structures, but they do look mountainous! SFZ

ReplyDeleteCorrection! First Spaceship on Venus and Planet of Storms are two separate films - my bad! SFZ

ReplyDeleteThat is a very nice Space Cone! Another cone-like object was the pylon on Cragstan's memorable Moon City, with the Apollo track winding around it. SFZ
DeleteSweeeet! Love it!
