This small lonely thingy was in a bag of junk our daughter gave us. I thought it was a remote for something.
But it's an iPod.
A complete mystery to me personally, the Missus seemed to know about iPods, although we've never had one.
Being interested in boomer tech like VHS and Super 8, I wondered whether anyone will collect stuff like iPods in the future?
Did this Apple gizmo last long? Was it a sort of music centre? What did it replace and what replaced it?
Like Mini discs and Laserdiscs, iPods simply passed me by and thus stilk hold some mystery.
Where you an iPodder?

I did briefly have a go with one. They don't do it for me. I like hard physical copies ofmy stuff, not virtual, digital stuff that you effectively rent. Also, they have a non replaceable rechargeable battery which doesn't last forever.
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm hard copy too Kev.LPs, cassettes and CDs!
DeleteThese are actually still quite desirable with the current generation Z. Early 90's digital cameras are favoured for that 'pixellated' look as well as Nokia mobile phones. I'd charge it up and see what your daughter was listening to, then put it on ebay! Bill
ReplyDeleteWeve got some Nokias!
DeleteBefore I lost my hearing and especially the ability to appreciate recorded music, this was my favourite toy. I loaded all my soundtracks and tunes on to it and would play it through a portable speaker to inspire me during my creative work.
ReplyDeleteI still have mine, with it's trove of inspirational sound, bit it's been unused for ten years now.
Aw, sorry Looey. Damn. That's tough mate.
DeleteThat's a shame, ive lost the top end of my hearing from playing drums in bands for almost 35 years, i thought having a vintage drumkit (the last generation that didn't need to be miked) was a good thingš¬
DeleteI love my iPod Woodsy! This is my second, bought just before they were discontinued. It holds 16 GB of music, and is very light.mI think I have over 2000 songs and albums on it, from all types of music. I have been using it for years while I run, and dread the day it stops working. Sound is good though my ear buds, and it is so light when clipped onto my running shorts I don't even feel it. Hope it lasts another few years!

Blimey Jim, iPod is alive and kicking ( Simple Mind's best song, have you got that on there! Ha ha). Yep, let's hope yours lasts. I have it in my head that they stood on a small stand in the home. Was that the charging point?
DeleteNo, it plugged into a USB charger. Since it's an Apple product the iPhone charger fits it. My original charger for it quit a long time ago, but iPhone chargers still work. I'm now using my iPhone 16 charger with it. I don't have Simple Minds, but I do have everything from bagpipes to the Clash, Stones, 50s to 80s folders , Great White, Alice Cooper, whatever catches my fancy!

Sounds fab Jim! Eclectic jogging!
