I'll leave it up to our American comrades to set you right on this, Woodsy... But I should just point out that in Silent Running, Bruce Dern is on the bridge of the Valley Forge space freighter. Going stir-crazy on the way to Saturn, he peers at an oscilloscope and following the beat of the blip, he sings the Smokey Bear theme song!
Like tape drive computers, oscilloscopes have dropped out a favour for spaceship set dressing these days!
Sorry, enter Comments first, before hitting the Publish button. I do recall seeing the Smokey the Bear cartoons on TV in NZ - perhaps in the 1970s ? He seemed to be a well established character, even then.
Smokey was the "mascot/spokesbear" for the National Forests in the USA. I had a little bendable rubber toy of him back in the 60's. They would have Public Service Announcements on TV (like a commercial) now and then where a cartoon Smokey would recite his motto, "Only YOU can prevent forest fires!" Like me, a city kid, had ever started a forest fire.

Hasn't Trump just sacked all of those people, because they're not necessary ?
