Now obscure TV shows came and went. For instance I remember Street Hawk and Manimal but this Automan passed me completely by.
He did get his own action figure though. Maybe there's more!
Made by Acamas Toys, it's new to me.
How about you readers?

1984 BBC1 Saturday tea time. Only shown once, never repeated. Think it was shown during the summer when Dr Who would be off air at that time. Desi Arnaz Jr as the scientist who created Automan and also Cursor - a small glowing shape that could create objects and vehicles like the Autocar (a neon coloured awesome Lamborghini Countach) . It was a rip-off of the 1982 movie Tron but set in the 'real' world. The only thing I remember about the stories themselves is the Autocar doing 90 degree turns (like the Tron lightcyles) during car chases causing Desi to be squashed against the window just like the stick on Garfield window clinging toys of the 80s.
ReplyDeleteAnother product with the serial numbers filed off, from the mind of Glen Larcency!
DeleteAlthough we did later get a great remake of Battlestar Galactica, from Ron Moore...
Great memories Yorkie. Yes, it does look Tron like.
DeleteTurns out there was a full set of toy figures from this show, along with a car, a motorcycle, and even a helicopter !
ReplyDeleteI don't remember it AT ALL, however.
It must have been truly pants !
Wow Mish, they must be scarce toys. I've never seen them or the show! Somewhere someone will have them all.
DeleteI never saw the toy of the car.
ReplyDeleteI have two memories.
It could make instant 90 degree turns “If he can do it, I can do it.”
That and Automan was weaken somehow by “The Festival of Lights” which was merely turning on and off all of a towns lighting…Latin America I think.
Great memories Anon!
