I know there are many Action Man fans among Moonbasers, so I thought this You Tube video would be of interest.
A look at the work of Palitoy box artist Dave Barnacle, who sadly passed away this month, April 2025.
He did many of the Action Man boxes in the 1970s, as well as other lines, such as Planet of the Apes, and Star Wars.
There is even a look at some concept art for figures that never made it in to production.

Fascinating to see this history, of a lost art - commercial toy illustration! SFZ
ReplyDeleteFabulous box art from this guy, that really made kids want to get the toys and play with them.
ReplyDeleteWhats more, it's quality would convince parents of the quality of the product inside the packaging, thus encouraging them to part with their hard earned cash to buy them.
Looks like he had a rewarding career.
I'd love it if there were a further video showing how he carried out his artwork, you know, references, materials, timeframes, that sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteSadly, probably not going to happen now.
Yep, a great video about a talented artist. Thanks for sharing Paul.
