I remember seeing the Owl Service as a kid and thinking the ending was what these days is called a "mind screw"! After 2001: A Space Odyssey, cryptic endings were all the rage (like Doppleganger!) The original book made more sense as I recall. I recently decided to rewatch the entire series on a Network DVD release, but sadly time hasn't improved the ending.
I'm getting much more enjoyment from Network's full series of Catweazel!
A brilliant retelling of the story of Blodeuwedd and Llew Law Gyffes from the Mabinogion. Very much of its day, with a seventies approach to tv. Alan Garners books are always inspired and clever, so the book is much more relatable. Bill
