It just wouldn't be Christmas without one showing of the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special!
Festive Wookie family fun and the first appearance of Boba Fett. There's cosmic prog rock and it even has Princess Leia singing Jedi carols!
You know you want to watch it! I don't even think this is on Disney +! One and a half hours of vintage first trilogy Star Wars!
[viewers at the time on November 17th 1978 were expecting The Incredible Hulk on CBS but they got this instead!]
Enjoy and tell us what you think!

The farce is definitely with this one! It's patently dreadful. Theres an almost pornographic sequence with the grandpa wookie fantasising about an exotic dancer, Han, Luke and Leia looking like the Brady bunch a the dodgiest sets ever seen. God alone knows why the Boba Fett sequence appears, but it's worth watching for the origin of the modern Mandalorians disintegrator weapon. It's mega cringeworthy and basically an attempt to sell toys. Lucasfilm basically turned their back on it and deemed it non-canon from the off! Bill
ReplyDeleteSo, am I right, is it not on Disney's roster?
DeleteThis was burned into my brain when I saw it on free to air TV in '78.
ReplyDeleteI recently bought a bootleg DVD to renew the joy!
It seems recent Star Wars streaming shows are starting to incorporate some references, turning the whole mess into Canon!
"I find your lack of nostalgia disturbing..."
ha ha, great quote Looey! I wonder if the original film still exists somewhere in a can?
