I love to swirl a pen around a page and as I'm swirling I always wonder how Alex Toth came up with his genius designs. What a fabulous style he had!
Here's a taste, Birdman 1967, one of countless old drawings on the net. I just love his illustrations.
You?
Wow, he was good! SFZ
ReplyDeleteSo good yeah SF and all the Saturday morning cartoons like Herculoids and Space Ghost he designed are so damn good its untrue.
DeleteToth's animation work was great! I had a photocopy of the work he designed for Hanna Barbera's version of Lost in Space, which featured cartoon versions of Smith, the Robot and the Chariot. All the other characters were generic, including the Jupiter being a rocket ship!
ReplyDeleteAlex Toth's comic work still amazes me, he had the ability to "spot the blacks" -to place black ink shadows on his drawings to create a fully modelled effect!
I know what you mean about shadowing Looey, Toth was incredible I agree. Such a distinct style of his own, a uniqueness like like Jack Davis or Steve Ditko.
