This Tamiya Apollo 1 kit I saw online has to be one of my favourite space concept vehicles. Its so darn slick and really quite beautiful in its design. I love the angular lines and the windscreen. Very Syd Mead.
Is this a kit you have had?
Kit pictures welcomed!
A fine model indeed. Pretty rare these days.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen one in the flesh Paul.
DeleteWow, that is a beauty! I am embarrassed to say I never saw that one before, and was unaware Tamiya did any Sci-Fi kits. I bet that one goes for a pretty penny nowadays! SFZ
ReplyDeleteOddly enough, I thought you had one on your old JSFM site SF. Also called Jupiter.
DeleteI too have never seen this one - very nice indeed!
ReplyDeleteYep, those angles! Wow!
DeleteOH YES! I lusted over the Jupiter 2 missile unit, but my pocket money budget could only stretch to the Apollo 1.
ReplyDeleteOne of my favourite childhood kits!
I was a little mystified at the badge with the Lunar crew portrait. I guessed even then that they were just made up and didn't represent any actual media reference.
The graphics of the decals with atomic ring logos were a bit cheesy even for my 11 year old self!
I loved the bonus wheeled trailer included with the tracked vehicle, although I questioned whether tyres were suitable given the main vehicle was tracked.
Of course this kit is very much of it's time.
If I wanted a mint in box example today, it would cost me over A$5000!
