Hi Woodsy
I don't usually buy tin toys, but I snapped up this Fairey Rotodyne on eBay because it's one of my favourite aircraft!
The toy was made by Arnold in West Germany, presumably in the early 1960s when the Rotodyne was in the news. Arnold has a long history, starting with making toy trains.
The Rotodyne model is about 22cm long, very lightweight, and has a 'remote control' mechanism which rotates the blades.
Overall it's in very good condition for its age - there can't be many left in this condition.
Hope you find it interesting!
Cheers,
Chris Jenkins
I like that. It has an Anderson-esque vibe too!
ReplyDeleteGreat toy, based on a cool prototype! SFZ
ReplyDeleteThat is a really great toy. A true beauty. Western Germany is also a piece of history that no longer exists.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really cool airplane!
ReplyDeleteA very nice model of an interesting aircraft. The rotor also looks big enough to provide lift!
ReplyDeleteLooks like something from the 1936 movie version of H.G.Wells's 'Things To Come' to me.
ReplyDeleteAmazing Chris. West Germany eh. I'm there now, in the old sense. I was looking at Arnold toys today at a car boot sale.
