Arto's fabulous collecting never ceases to amaze me. Finland really is the centre of the vintage universe. Its quite incredible what turns up in the far North.
Some of Arto's recent finds include a rare Finnish Flintstones cornflakes teepee and the blog legend that is the 'Space Boat' [Ebay]. This is only the second one Arto or I have ever seen. This second example is yellow rather than the white we saw decades ago.
Arto also recently visited Vintageland, a huge Spring fair at Aino Arena, where all sorts of goodies were on offer. Here are two of Arto's snaps and also the venue's own promo [Petri Matero].

What do you think readers?
Are you going to a collectables, vintage or toy fair this year?
Wow - i'd love to visit somewhere like that. I love the giant white rooster and the girl art bomber panels. What a fantastic assortment. There are similar fairs in the UK, but the most annoying part is the vendors, who tend to squat behind the stalls scowling at anyone who picks anything up! Its like they dont actually want to part with stuff! Id be up engaging with people and chatting about toys and collecting! Bill
ReplyDeleteBritish fairs seem a lot more rammed with people than the quiet ambience of this one Arto! I love the variety of stuff at Vintageland, from Indian Motorcycles to a SHADO 3 to a Bionic Man! Something for everyone and a dream to rummage through I bet. Two days as well! That's a big venture and I hope everyone made some money, friends and great buys. As a non-Fin its interesting to see an American influence and no real Soviet influence in the artefacts. is the old Iron Curtain past of Finland avoided and shunned?
ReplyDeleteSo true Woodsy, never came to think of it before. I recall seeing one Soviet plastic robot, that's all. Which does not mean that there aren't Soviet collectibles around, mostly related to 1980 Olympics, souvenirs (incl. various space-related), diecast models, dolls and other toys. Maybe not too much en vogue today though.
DeleteYes, I can see why Arto.
DeleteWow, that place looks great. You could find anything there.
