I do love these small Marx space playsets to use in a diorama but would really hate to take them off their display cards. Trying to find already unboxed pieces has been a bear though.
Three of the four playsets are based on the Marx Hill Climbing Moon Grabbers, whilst a fourth has a tank base with a dome on it. I distinctly recall going to a xmas grotto in the sixties and seeing these for sale. The cost at the time was astronomical compared to similar toys and I ended up with a carded set with a pvc Tbird 3, a yellow molab and SPV and a handful of silver astronauts. Ive always wanted to get these sets, but due to their rarity, they are expensive and hard to find. Bill
You're right Bill, these are basically downsized, non-operating, versions of the Marx Moon Grabbers of which I have one in the collection. Over the years I have been getting these for around $85-$100/set but haven't seen any of late.
Most definitely! I've even re-glued a couple of the pieces back onto the cardboard base. Now, if I had a 3D printer I would consider removing them to make copies and then re-attaching them to the base. but as I don't have the money or the room for one, they'll stay put.
Those are beautiful, and far too nice to remove from their existing dioramas.
ReplyDeleteyes exactly Paul! I am in fact keeping them attached
DeleteI agree, gorgeous things these, works of art!
ReplyDeleteThey are aren't they Woodsy! These, as well as the small sets by LP are awesome!

DeleteStunning vintage playset, Ed. Marx gave us some fantastic toys and figures.
ReplyDeleteYes they did Tony! While other companies put out space toys, Marx had the market cornered with their awesome range of playsets.
DeleteThese are truly amazing pieces of art disguised as dimestore toys. Keep ‘em as is! SFZ
