Woodsy,
I've been culling photos from the Web for years in an attempt to get inspiration for some kind of display using my toys!
These are only some of the images I've collected.
Even I we don't use any of these ideas, they're still cool to look at!

Fred Freeman, Colliers, 1952
Are there any more out there? Pictures welcomed.
Thanks for compiling this magnificent set of various Moon Base cutaways, Ed! I am so fond of both with the concept and how it is presented in these illustrations. Maybe needless to add that the Spacex Moon Base HQ is one of my all-time favourite toys!
ReplyDeleteAm I seeing right that in the photo 5 the crew is working almost naked? Kinda makes sense, saves you from doing lotsa laundry!
Arto, I believe you're right. Unfortunately, all of these pictures were low-res and start to get grainy when enlarged, but yes, they do appear to have no shirts on.
DeleteI do like that model version on display there. the yellow Starshaped base is a NAVY Sealab concept, you can see the divers in the right hand compartment. Meanwhile, back in real life:

Interesting! But why are they happy? Its exploded!
DeleteBigelow Aerospace currently has its 'Bigelow Expandable Activity Module (BEAM)' (a expandable habitat technology demonstration for the International Space Station) which was deployed to the ISS in 2016.
DeleteThe Fred Freeman modules could almost be my soap dishes! ha ha. Love it.
ReplyDeleteYou're right Woodsy! Except for the size, the shapes are similar. Yours are the baby modules - the experimental versions built prior to development of larger versions! (that's my story and I may or may not stick to it LOL)
DeleteHa ha! It's a soap opera Ed!
DeleteJust realised that clear shampoo or bubble bath plastic bottles would be ideal for a moon base model too. Just cut them in half!
DeleteOr leave the bottles whole and attempt a ship in a bottle type thing for the contents!
DeleteThe shirtless lunarnauts is amusing. It could be because they are just being manly and there are no womenfolk around...
ReplyDeleteI was looking at the sleeping spaceman tucked up in his bed with nice cotton sheets and it occurred to me I couldn't see a washing machine. I wonder who gets Laundry Detail on this base. Is it the lower ranks, when they're not peeling potatoes for dinner?
Looey, In space no-one can see you clean!
