I have just found this amazing You Tube video, about a former airline captain who built himself a giant, working model airport.
The aircraft take off and land, including the Concorde!
His wife is responsible for the maintenance work on all the vehicles, including changing their tyres. Look closely, and you will see lots of familiar die-cast vehicles by Matchbox and Husky/Corgi Juniors, and what look to be Scalextric figures.
Originally broadcast by the BBC in 1980. I wonder what happened to the layout ?

What a wonderful video! Thanx for that Paul!!! The opening sequence of the Concorde landing reminded me of the airport that's a part of the "Miniatur Wonderland" display in Hamburg, GE. My how technology has progressed. Mr. Carney's wearing of his pilot's uniform while operating the display is also reminiscent of train guys wearing overalls and railroad engineer caps while playing with their trains - BTW I don't do that :-)
ReplyDeleteWow! I keep expecting Air Terranian's Fireflash to touch down on runway 29...!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this incredible mini world Paul.
