There's a new big screen Godzilla coming to town, a Toho original called Minus One. He stomps into UK cinemas in mid-December.
Minus One refers to the state of play of the post-war Tokyo in the film i.e. not good at all and Godzilla is not feeling the love either.
Like the previous Shin Godzilla this is a new film from the original makers of the 1954 debut, the 33rd Japanese film and is already garnering good reviews.
Could be a Christmas cracker for fans of the King.
Will you be going to see Godzilla this holiday?
Here's the official trailer to wet your whistle.
What about that new Apple TV series 'Monarch Legacy of Monsters' too?
ReplyDeleteYep, there's that too. Alas I ain't got no Apple TV. You?
DeleteNot the same as the big screen. The King needs some space!
DeleteCGI Godzilla? No thanks, I’ll watch one of my oldies on DVD. Kaiju Eiga must be men in suits on a miniature landscape stage, sorry! Computer-generated monsters look soulless to me. SFZ
ReplyDeleteha ha, I like your philosophy. I love many modern Kaiju films SFZ but I re-watched a real mess tonight, Godzilla V Kong. Such a shame, its an old concept that could have been great again. They threw everything in except the Monarch sink; Kong, Godzilla, Hollow Earth and zero tension. The cast were boring too. Come back Bryan Cranston!
DeleteI was really surprised at how much I liked Shin Godzilla. I saw it with two friends in an empty cinema in Newtown. I was still processing a diagnosis of Prostate cancer, so everything had an apocalyptic air.
ReplyDelete(Spoiler: I got a second opinion and was instantly cured!)
Shin Godzilla was a bit too Evangelion inspired for my taste, but the cliffhanger ending was brilliant. I'm glad they never continued with that storyline, as it left the dormant Godzilla as the most dangerous creature on the planet.
I'm very keen to see Godzilla Minus One as the Director made the Always Sunset on 3rd Street Trilogy which is a love letter to Showa Japan and popular culture. You really should try to see them, a 1961 era Godzilla even makes a cameo!
Sounds good Looey, I'll check it out. I'm hoping to see Minus One this Christmas.
