Here is a bit more on the American artist Mort Kunstler. He did a number of box tops for Aurora, including the two Man From U.N.C.L.E. figure kits - no idea if he did any for other companies.
He is mentioned several times in Box Top Air Power, by Thomas Graham, which covers model aircraft box art. Born in 1927, it seems he is still with us.

Mort Kunstler is probably better known as one of the artists supplying the lurid art for post war Men's magazines.
ReplyDeleteThis book features a wide range of Artists although most of the pictures are bikini girls being menaced by Nazis and screaming men covered in ants! However Mort Kunstler has some amazing aviation scenes such as a Dambuster skimming a dam wall or a RAF Victor bomber making a death run on the Kremlin!
Approach with caution!

Oh, these classic illustrators are all Gods in my book. Also a big fan of George Eidson.
ReplyDeleteEmbarrassing! Scott Eidson is the illustrator I was thinking of. I just located my old Models Scrapbook, with a bunch of Eidson box art from old UPC models. I’ll send them along to Woodsy, and see if he wants to post them. Gorgeous artwork, imho. SFZ
