As I careen towards living through Batman '66 all over again (this time chronologically!) I've been inspired by recent Moonbase blogs.
In particular the Husky Toys and Fixer-upper posts.
I decided now was the best time to get some of the Huskys I never had as a kid and given my skills at bodging things up, I could afford to go a bit down market and avoid coughing up stupid amounts for mint examples of 50 year old toys.
So here are my big four, the Uncle Piranha, James Bond's Aston Martin, the Batmobile and the Monkeemobile....
The Monkees' ride is in pretty good shape with the band all together. A little paintwork and this will be as good as new!
Batman's wheels are also not too bad, but the dynamic duo didn't get today's call sheet, so there's some extra work needed there.
Bond James Bond has already ejected Mr. Goldfinger's associate, so again extra work and our hero could use a coat of Civil Service grey himself.
The worst of the lot is the Uncle jalopy that seems to have been rolled not stirred. The roof is caved in and all the glass has gone, but at least Napoleon and Ilya were wearing their seat belts (unlike Batman and Robin!)
Can I get these four iconic 60's cars back on the road in time for my birthday? Hmmm, I'll get back to you on that!
So Moonbasers, if you could have some Huskys that you never had way back when, what would they be?
Looey (still 65 ATM)
Ive still got all my original Husky's, including these four and the plastic Batboat too! For some reason, my dad would never buy me any of the military Matchbox or Husky models, so I would love some of the original army ones. Bill (still 61)
ReplyDeleteThose are four beauties you got there - all icons! Personally, I like 'em all beat up, but I think restoration is a terrific project.
ReplyDeleteI have the DB6 (with passenger), Batmobile, and UNCLE car, but I am not sure if mine are the Husky or Corgi Junior versions. Alas, no Monkeemobile yet.
ReplyDeleteI did have a few Huskys back in the 1960s. One I would really like now is the Monkeemobile; and the Corgi Juniors Aerocar, which is almost the flying car from The Man With the Golden Gun.
Currently 62.
