Here's a few photos I took at last weekend's Southport Airshow.
The Typhoon, a real crowd pleaser.
The Red Arrows could only manage a flyby on their way to another show, as bad weather in Blackpool had meant they missed their earlier slot at Southport.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight; Lancaster Bomber; Spitfire & Hurricane.
The Lancaster.
The Memorial Flight over Southport Pier.
Two of the aircraft that were part of the Great War Display.
The Chinook.
The Strikemaster.
Awesome! I would dearly love to see that Lancaster fly. It shows up in a lot of the video feeds I follow and it's always beautiful!
ReplyDeleteOne year we had two Lancs on display, Ed. One had come over from Canada.
DeleteYou've kinda got the best and worst of ww2 British aviation in your A-10 Thunderbolt/Warthog, the A-10 has the firepower of the Lancaster but is unfortunately 100mph slower than the Spitfire.
DeleteRandom anorak information like this keeps me warm at night ;)
Great piccies, Scoop! Those shots of the Typhoon are so sharp and well lit that they look like the work of the Late Mr. Meddings!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure there weren't any Angel Interceptors on display that day?
Thanks Lewis, sadly no Angels. It was hoped we'd see a vintage Vampyre jet fly, but due to technical problems it was a no show.
ReplyDeleteGreat evocative shots Scoop. Glad its peacetime, thats a lot of firepower over Lancashire's skies!
ReplyDeleteCheers Woodsy.
DeleteWonderful photos!
ReplyDeleteCompletely consistent with your skills as a photographer, but I'm not going to take that for granted!
When I was little, we had a matchbox of the Alvis Saracen. It was only when I got on the internet, I found out what it was!
Thanks Scott. Prior to the show I'd seen the Saracen driving along the road, not far from where I live. It was quite a head turner as it pulled away from the traffic lights.
DeleteWow! The Lancaster and the Chinook made my day! Classic machines in operation! SFZ
ReplyDeleteThe Lancaster is such an iconic aircraft, Zigg, very popular with the crowds.
