It was with great sadness that I read of David McCallum's passing yesterday. He was 90.
I remember the young David clearly from when I was a kid watching The Man from Uncle where he played the fantastically named Illya Kuryakin, half of the secret agent double act that propelled him to stardom in the heat of the 1960's spy and agent craze.
By way of farewell here are the opening credits of the Man from Uncle TV series, where David's talents really shone back when we were spies zooming round the floor with our Corgi Thrushbuster.
Do you remember David McCallum readers?
That is sad news, I remember watching the "Man from UNCLE" as a boy with my brothers and then playing it the next day with our friends. David was really good in NCIS as a doctor over the past decade, he will be missed.
ReplyDeleteWillz.
Very sad. I really enjoyed him in Sapphire and Steel too.
ReplyDeleteThat is sad news. I seldom watch television any more and don't really keep up with the news (it's all so depressing) and often times I hear about news events in a round about way. Your post Woodsy was the first I had heard about his passing. Never having seen NCIS I only remember him from The Man From U.N.C.L.E which was among my favs as a kid.
ReplyDeleteHe had a melody called "The Edge" that hip-hop used
ReplyDeleteR.IDavid.I did a post on the THRUSH Buster back in 2020.

ReplyDeleteI should have said R.I.P. David aka Illya. I'm currently on holiday on the island of Kos and WIFI is a bit dodgy.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your hols Scoop! Kali Nikta!
DeleteI am so sorry to hear this news. I remember him in The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Sapphire and Steel, and also a 1970s version of The Invisible Man. I too will miss him.
ReplyDeleteThe Man from UNCLE was a childhood favourite. RIP David.
ReplyDeleteIt gave me a jolt as soon as I saw the news.
ReplyDeleteMoonbasers may remember my childhood anecdote about how my famous Photographer father casually mentioned at breakfast "David McCallum was here last night..."
"- and you didn't wake me?" I screamed!
Loved 'The Man From U.N.C.L.E.' as a kid, and McCallum's performance as Ilya Kuryakin.
ReplyDeleteGreat theme tune too !
