This is weird. I've just seen an image I recognise as my friend's Paul Vreede's online. Its on a shopping site! In fact Go Shoppi appears to be using many images of Paul's and also of Moonbase Central's to sell what I assume is just fresh air!
See what I mean https://www.cyonnelly.site/ProductDetail.aspx?iid=367972573&pr=40.88
Is this AI at work or human scammers? Maybe I should delete this post?
Did you read the comments for that page? They have absolutely nothing to do with space toys! Bogus Site (aka 'BS')!
ReplyDeleteYes BS! Thanks Ed.
DeleteIt's probably a combination of automated scripts and human handiwork,Woodsy. I've seen such attempts before (though not with my pictures) where at first glance it looks reasonably legit until you look at the details. Like Ed says, the comments are wrong. There's spelling mistakes. The "who we are" and "shipping" type pages are scraped together and full of holes. And the stuff on sale is too good to be true - rare collectables offered as if they're common commodities, click to add to basket. It's a larger automated version of the hopefuls I've come across that grab pictures off eBay and try to sell an item they don't have on a local craigslist/gumtree/small ads site. At least those you can report to the site management but they'll only have their account deleted and then simply try again with a new one. Buyer beware...

Thanks Paul. You've put my mind at rest. What a waste of internet space.
