Catching up with Disney +'s output of Marvel I tuned into the new series Secret Invasion. Have you?
Hoping for a Secret Wars style raft of heroes and villains like Kang and the Cap I was greeted with Skrulls. Now Skrulls ain't bad per se and neither is Nick Fury but it isn't going to set the world alight. There's just too much talking and too many Skrulls.
Having got Episode 1 under my belt I've come away feeling that Secret Invasion is like a talky slice of 90's TV sci-fi with very little action on the horizon.
I'm not overly excited about Episode 2.
Have you been secretly invaded?
Disney + = Disney MINUS! Can’t stand the brand, actually. SFZ
ReplyDeleteYou deffo don't like it SF!
DeleteI just find it incredibly slow. But Olivia Colman is awesome in every scene she's in. The action scenes are good but few and far between. As a lot of it was filmed in Yorkshire I keep spotting famous Northern spots - for instance in episode one Piece Hall in Halifax doubling for Moscow ! Part of it was filmed in Leeds near where I work so I'm watching out for that too.
ReplyDeleteReally, Leeds! I'll have to look more closely Yorkie. I used to work there for 20 years. I did the same with A Touch of Frost, which was filmed round our neck of the woods. Great fun!
DeleteThere are so many of these Marvel/DC/Amazon/Apple/Netflix, Disney+ shows and they come and go, are rebooted, recast, re-imagined, multiversed and cancelled with such dizzying frequency that, frankly, I can't get engaged with any of them.
ReplyDeleteLife's too short !
Life's longer in the Multiverse Mish, where you can hop from one time to another!
DeleteI sat through most of the first two episodes, waiting for that little bit of Marvel magic - when you get a little wowfactor,… but fell asleep on both nights. Dull as dishwater, it’s like Winter Soldier and Hawkeye, to self absorbed and talky. Marvel should stick to comic book action like Thor and Fantastic Four and avoid the moralistic, preachy, political drama memes. I’ve consigned it to the back burner and went back to watching American Gods and Westworld, until some proper sci fi turns up again. Nick is more weary than furious now and it shows. Bill
ReplyDeleteBackburner + eh Bill! I may try Episode 2 and then decide if I wish to be further invaded! A shame really, I love the Avengers story arc but its the films that do it, not the series. Love and Thunder is the exception, a film that is simply not worthy!
DeleteI'm probably (definitelu?) in the minority, but I've never enjoyed any of the Marvel movies/series that have come out over the past decade or so. There's simply too many hours of material. Then again, I've never been one to turn on the television when it's even remotely nice outside.
ReplyDeleteWas it nice today Cap'n?
