Here is another Japanese kit I managed to sneak in before year’s end!
It’s something called Condor, from the Mazinger Z anime series, and I guess it’s a vehicle that sits on the head of the big robot.
Anyways, the kit came with a small Mazinger Z figure which I built as well. I still have that cool Jet Pilder flying machine from Mazinger Z, which I built a few years ago.
A Bandai 1990s reissue of a 1974 release. Gotta love the Shigeru Komatsuzaki artwork!
Enjoy!

Beautifully made and painted model Rob. Really clean lines and detail.
ReplyDeleteI'd dirty it down a bit, myself, but I know your not keen on that look.
Thank you sir! Yes, I like my models all nice and shiny like new toys under the Christmas Tree. Also, to be frank, I've tried weathering and the results were horrifying. So bright and shiny it is!

Sorry, don't know why that sent twice.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great job on those kits! Well done Rob.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately that is not a model of Mazinger Z, that is Great Mazinger. The Condor is a fighter jet that docks in Great Mazinger's head for the pilot to control the robot.
Mazinger Z has a small twin rotor plane called the Pildar that docks into the head.
Easiest way to tell them apart is Great Mazinger has a one piece chest emblem compared to Z's 2 pieces. Great is also kind of spiky at the top of the thighs, the head and the forearms which always made me think of Batman gauntlets. Z is smooth thighed, forearmed and the head is more bowlish for lack of a proper term.
There's also God Mazinger and Mazinkaiser series to help make it confusing.
Thanks for the update! My knowledge of anime is pretty minimal as you can see. All giant flying robots look alike to me - hey, is that considered Robotist?!?!
DeleteOooh! My favourite robot! Thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteMy pleasure, I was actually going to not build Great Mazinger, as I was more into the flying vehicle, but then thought that would be cheating, so... Not sure I got the color scheme right, but I grabbed a few shots off the Internet and winged it...
DeleteSadly the singer ofthe Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger and so many other super robot shows passed away Dec 6 2022. Mizuki Ichiro was 74 and just a month away from his 75th birthday. Here's a sampler of the themes he did.

Wow, I'm pretty sure I had a Japanese LP in the 1970s that featured alot of these theme songs, had no idea the singer was so prolific or famous Loved the tunes though!
DeleteI would love to re-purpose the fliers
