Seeing this awesome critter, Bemular by Acro Ltd, leering at me, I went in search of Kaiju and found ...
The Monstrous Animal Series by Imai, four fabulous plastic beasts - Nessie, Seauls [how do you say that?], Galba and Bagilla.
Digging deeper into the box art I like Galba's amazing looks the most [I had a jigsaw puzzle box cover - called Monsters - similar to this].
Bagilla too! Look at those teeth!
I've never seen these kits before and don't know the monsters other than Nessie.
Do you readers?
Great box art! Of course the actual models are nowhere near as wonderful! I'd bet my bottom dollar this art is by Shigeru Komatsuzaki, but I can't track it down. Scalemates says the kit is 1984, but the art looks earlier. Here's an interesting page about Nessie the kaiju!

Many thanks for the link, Lewis!
DeleteI've never encountered these before.
Fascinating!
(The difference between the box art and the model within reminds me of similar experiences with the PYRO dinosaur kits I bought as a child...)

Thanks DC.
DeleteWonderful boxes, although I do not think I would want to actually meet any of these creatures. Why is the Loch Ness Monster being ridden by a boy with a boomerang ?
ReplyDeleteThe aircraft in the pictures of Galba and Bagilla is a Lockheed F-104J Starfighter of the Japan Air Self Defence Force. They do not seem to be having a good day, and the monsters appear to be winning.
Following up Lewis' initial link, the answer to ALL your questions can be found here!

Cheers DC.
DeleteBemular is the first monster in the series Ultraman. In the first episode,Ultraman and Bemular crash to earth to continue their previous fighting.Ultraman is badly wounded, and gives his powers to Hiyata,a scientist investigating the 2 objects that crashed to Earth. The image you see is an artist's re-imagining of the Bemular character. This version looks a bit more fierce than the guy in a rubber suit TV version.
ReplyDeleteCheers Brian.
DeleteCorrection,it is Hiyata who is wounded.Ultraman gives his life force to save Hiyata.Hard to remember this stuff at my age!
ReplyDeleteThank you, D.C. That does indeed answer all my questions. An action packed series by the sound of it.
ReplyDeleteSeauls reminds me of the sea monsters of old woodcuts of yore:
