Being an Avengers fan, I’ve blogged quite a few posts on the famous TV series many times before, and although I’ve got all the series on DVD, including the seldom seen Police Surgeon episode which starred original Avenger, Ian Hendry, I decided to invest in the last three film seasons on Blu-ray, as I rarely watch the video taped episodes, as they’re mainly studio bound which I find hard going and dated. And I should add, they don’t hold any nostalgia for me as I was too young to watch them when they were first shown.
Like most Avengers fans, it’s the two Emma Peel seasons that are my favourites, followed by the single Tara King season.
Sadly, Venus Smith and Cathy Gale don’t get much of a look in!
I’ve got several of the UK paperbacks that were released at the time, including the one which deals with the Cathy Gale era, just for completist sake.
The others all focus on the Emma Peel seasons.
I also have a couple of the American paperbacks which weren’t published here in the UK
The other paperbacks are New Avengers tie-ins.
Nice collection. I've got the complete dvd collection, which is really nice but comes in a coffee table book sized container which is a right pain to put on a dvd collection shelf!
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a bit awkward to store. I've got all the Network special edition Supermarionation Blu-ray box sets and while they're very nice they're also difficult to store.
DeleteFabulous collection Scoop. I loved The Avengers as a kid - Peel and Steed duo - I always found it a bit scary, even the opening and closing music. There was a fascination among TV programme makers back then with obscure branches of a 'Ministry' like The Avengers [not sure which branch it was!]. Department S was another one and Doomwatch. I'm not sure we view the Government like that anymore in the UK. No mystery to them now. The Avengers storylines were always quite odd, which I loved and a bit scary for a wee lad too! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYes, it was definitely quirky and off beat, Woodsy. It showed a picture postcard of England that didn't really exist but it looked great!
DeleteAmazing collection! So many styles and formats and permutations! And all based on "the highly successful TV series!"
ReplyDeleteCheers Zigg, yeah, I've had them a while. I've also got an 'unofficial' Australian paperback too, 'The Saga of Happy Valley'', which I forgot to include!
