A few Xmas trees have appeared round here in front windows this week.
Is this too early?
When do you trim up readers? I think we'll leave it till later in December at Moonbase, despite the distinct lack of Christmas cheer around at the moment in the UK.
Maybe getting the Christmas decs up early is good idea for that very reason!
I'd ban it till December 1st at least.
ReplyDeleteOliver Cromwell banned Christmas outright!
DeleteI can begin to see his point, except I've no desire to be Lord Protector.
DeleteI never heard that before - Oliver Cromwell is my new hero! Xmas, Bah Humbug!
DeleteIn Finland the Xmas tree is brought in and decorated on Christmas Eve and stays until Saint Knut's Day (Jan. 13th) at the latest.
ReplyDeleteHowever, door decs already in place!
Just like my Missus did Arto over on the continent. Very atmospheric I imagine seeing that tree in the front room for the first time on Xmas Eve all lit up in the nutmegged darkness!
DeleteIn the States,we try to get Thanksgiving out of the way first(that's today).I already put up the tree and platform yesterday, and I will try to decorate it and put the village below it by Sunday night
ReplyDeleteFor my family,Thanksgiving dinner is more formal and substantial.Christmas eve we have dinner at a Chinese restaurant.Christmas day is usually just sandwiches(this year, a crock of meatballs with marinara sauce and a crock of sliced roast pork and gravy)and maybe some potato or macaroni salad
ReplyDeleteXmas Eve in a restaurant sounds lovely Brian. Those crocks are a great idea. Mmmm. Pork and gravy!
