William Shatner dressed as Captain James T Kirk doing a few publicity photos with the
Reactor, a custom car created by Gene Winfield. The car appeared briefly in the Star Trek episode,
Bread and Circuses.
Winfield, also had a hand in the final design and build of the Shuttlecraft in the series.
The Reactor made appearances in several other TV series; Bewitched, Mission Impossible and Batman.

Here's the
Reactor as The Kittycar in
Batman.Eaglemoss released a model of it in 2015.
Never seen those pictures before, they're great!
ReplyDeleteIt's certainly got a unique look, Kev. Not sure how practical it would be driving around town, but it would definitely turn heads!
DeleteThanks, a great looking car. I had a look at this car recently too - it also featured in a video by a duo called the Lemon Twigs - not my cup of tea, but you can always mute the sound and just enjoy the car. I was not aware there had been a model by Eaglemoss, just a couple of very limited production resin kits, and a 1/43rd scale resin model by Autocult.
ReplyDeleteHi Paul, not heard of The Lemon Twigs, but it's nice to know that the car is still being featured after all this time.
DeleteEaglemoss made a reasonable representation of the Kittycar which I did a post on in 2015 . I occasionally toy with the idea of buying another example and removing all the Catwoman attachments revealing the Reactor underneath!
Neat Car!
ReplyDeleteI remember reading about it a while ago.
It was actually built on the drive train, frame and hydraulics of a Citroen DS with a bigger Chevy engine.
