There's nothing quite like a long launch ramp for a rocket.
Here are two famous ones.
The Ark from When Worlds Collide.
Fireball XL5
Can you think of any more readers?
have you got any models like these?

ReplyDeleteThe V1 'Doodlebug'. Ramp launched, rocket bombs, fired at the UK by the Germans in WW2.
Ah yes. The Vay Einz. Violent stuff.
DeleteIn Gerry Anderson's 'New Captain Scarlet' episode 'Mercury Falling' the Mercury shuttle launches along a rail. The CGI animation team stated this was a reference to Gerry's earlier Fireball XL5 series.

In the 'Star Trek Enterprise' episode 'First Flight' the NX Alpha and NX Beta also launch along a rail. These are the ships that break the warp 2 and warp 2.5 barriers though the NX Alpha is destroyed in its attempt..
Great stuff Yorkie. I checked out that New Captain Scarlet site. We're all the vehicles available as toys? They're pretty cool designs!
DeleteIn the Joe 90 episode 'Test Flight' the Orbital Glide Transport (OGT) launches from a short ramp and crashes straight into the control tower opposite it. Hmmm, build the control tower right in front of the launch area. A major design fault by the architect! And don't forget Thunderbird 2 launches from a very short ramp.
ReplyDeleteYou know your Anderson shows Yorkie! I think Joe 90 was my second fave after Thunderbirds. And yes, how could I forget TB2! I bought in a few Weco TB2 clocks in the 90's for my stall. It had a great ramp design I thought.
