As readers, Kevin D, Lewis Morley and myself touched on the subject of the 1954 film, Tobor the Great on my 'Zeroid Guest Star' post, yesterday, I thought the only robot toy I have with a connection to Tobor is my old 'Robert the Robot' toy, made by Ideal in the fifties.
Here's Robert with Zeroid Commander Zogg, and a couple of publicity photos showing Robert and Tobor.
Nice. That is one big robot toy!
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is a size, Kev. It has a steel wire remote control with a handle you turn to operate the wheels underneath the Robot. It should have battery powered lights to illuminate the eyes, and a small record inside so it can 'talk'. Sadly, apart from from moving backwards or forwards the other gadgets no longer work.
DeleteI have a DVD of nostalgic toy ads featuring the construction of Robert and sure enough, through the power of YouTube -here it is!

Great stuff, Lewis, a very nostalgic infomercial. I love the way the machinist is filmed coming up with the idea of Robert and explaining it to his colleagues! :)
