A couple of teasers from the Round 2/MPC kit company at the recent Wonderfest event.
Apart from a new 14" version of the Eagle Winch/Frieghter from Space:1999, they have recently acquired the licence for Gerry & Sylvia Anderson's UFO too, and hope to produce brand new kits sometime in 2023. There's no firm details as yet on scale etc. as things are still in the planning stage, but I'm certainly looking forward to what they come up with.
Also, it looks like a brand new 1:25 scale version of the ever popular Black Beauty from the 60's Green Hornet TV series is in the planning stage too, another kit I'll be sure to buy.
Delighted that they are planning to make UFO kits. At their Q&A session Jamie Hood of Round 2 said they would start with the Interceptor, probably at 1/48th scale to fit in with their Eagle transporter scale line. They also plan different versions of the Mobile and are looking at kits of SkyDiver and SID. I'm still hoping for a decent Sky 1 kit one day (drat you Airfix back in the day!). Given that Round2 is only a small company and their biggest sellers are car kits, and they are making Star Wars, 1999 and Star Trek kits as well, I think it will be a couple of years yet before the UFO kits see the light of day.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed, Yorkie I'm really looking forward to what comes out. (A decent SKY1 kit would be most welcome :D ) Watching Jamie, on his Q&A video on YouTube, he talks about getting the license, and does say they will concentrate on the more popular craft to begin with, and as you say the Interceptor will probably be first. Further down the line they may do SID. Someone mentioned Straker's car too, but, as you also mentioned Round 2 have only so much manpower and resources, so that may or may not appear depending on how things pan out. As to when the models finally come out, I'd like to think maybe towards the end of next year, but your guess might well be nearer the mark.
DeleteHe also mentioned the GH Black Beauty kit, which he was hoping to release towards the end of this year, but as they're still working on accuracy issues that's been annoyingly put back, but hopefully not for too long.
I love this airship model
