Boxing up the contents of the house is throwing up some stuff for sadly throwing out.
One artefact of many destined for the abyss is this oil painting I did in 1991 "Holy War", inspired by the terrible conflict in the Gulf. I was exactly half the age I am now when I did it!
Water damage has rendered it unhangable but I never like throwing out 'art'.
Would you chuck it out?
One thing's that staying is a set of old books I inherited from my late Dad, the Second Great War by Sir John Hammerton published by the Waverley Book Company.
I have a good bundle of these volumes.
This is volume one.
They're all nicely bound and have stood the test of time.
I'll give them my daughter one day.
Have you any inherited books?
The painting looks fine from the front ? Perhaps hang it in a darkish corner ? All of Mum's sewing and cook books, and romance novels, have been given away now. Everything left is mine.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul. It's hard seeing our parents' belongings go.
DeleteI still treasure my mother's Bannister Fletcher History of Architecture.
ReplyDeleteI was going to post a URL of a free PDF download, but they all appear to be scam sites...
I found a decent ebook site recently and d/l all the Alan Dean Foster commonwealth scifi books I was missing! Trouble is, I hate reading on screen
DeleteThat is some book Looey. Just had a look. What a name for an architect, Bannister!
DeleteHis best title has to be Splinter of the Mind's Eye Wote. I was reading that Lando Calrisian got a series of novels back in the 80's too. Not ADFoster though. I've never heard of them. You?
DeleteA lot of my art on large canvases ended up in the bin, mostly because my wife doesn't share my taste and because I tend to be really self critical too. Thats the main reason I moved to photography and digital media, I can create in seconds what would take weeks with acrylics and a brush. Plus I can bin it and start again if its not working. Bill
ReplyDeleteYou're such a good painter too Wote. I have two of your SWORD paintings on my wall! I dread to think what went in that skip!
