I'm clearly guilty of hypocrisy now, as after spending many years claiming I don't like tin toys, I remembered I have another one. Its a modern repro by Schylling of a Russian car track.
Clockwork wound, two disks revolve moving tiny litho buses and taxi's in and out of a tunnel and pair of terminals.
I had one when I was about 7 and my sister got me this one a few years back gor my birthday.
I was always fascinated by watching the little vehicles pop in and out of the tunnels.
Nowadays, the vintage look is even more appealing, even if it is tin!
I had one of them too!
ReplyDeleteMe too. We had one up till very recently. Nice things. Fascinating to watch.
ReplyDeleteI had the original as a kid too! I remember playing with it on the floor of my Grandfather's lounge room in Hounslow. I was always fascinated by the graphics and colour choices, but it must have been left behind when we left England. I was somewhat surprised to see the originals now command quite high prices!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful piece!

ReplyDeleteSorry for above, still getting used to the new system!
ReplyDeleteThis is also available as a train, which is also nice. Watch out for the red colour on the Russian toys though, as it quickly fades in sunlight.
