Continuing our sporadic glimpse into cut-away models is this tall statue.
It's at the entrance to Yorkshire Sculpture Park near Moonbase Central.
This colossal pregnant lady is over 20 feet tall and stood in a sheep field.
Like an Aurora anatomy kit she's showing what she's made of.
Its certainly a startling thing as you enter the park and may not be to everyone's taste, although I like it.
The statue is called the Virgin Mother by one Damian Hirst, he of the halved shark.
I think its gross. I'm not a fan of Hirst's work, I find it deliberately offensive and crass. there are some beautiful pieces in the sculpture park, especially the Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth installations, whose organic shapes fit right in to the rural setting. But Hirst piece naturally is at odds with its surroundings and calls for attention, much like the artist.
ReplyDeleteEverybody Hirst sometime Wote. The dissected lady is startling I'll give you that. The photo's a year old so she may have walked off by now.

ReplyDeleteha ha, now that is marketing! Not one to google though!
DeleteHirst is not an artist.
ReplyDeleteMerely a fashionable attention seeker.
Tracy Emin is similar. A craftless neurotic 'teenager' and, briefly, on trend self publicist.
