The Sounds of Action is actually a Thompson sub-machine gun - I think the M1928 version. This is a hand-held, fully automatic weapon firing pistol (rather than rifle) ammunition. Very popular with movie gangsters.
Interesting Paul. I can't actually see the Tarheel logo on the box but I've gone along with the auction description, which states in a Johnny Tarheel. they made a lot of toy guns like this, in Japan.
