I read today that Chris Reeve beat a few others to the job of being Superman in the movies, namely Sly Stallone, Robert Redford and Clint Eastwood.
Blimey!
Imagine a Sly Stallone Superman or Bob Bedford or Clint in the famous costume!
What do you think? How would it have been?
Hard to imagine any of those names. Had a chance of get a glimpse of Mr. Reeve in his Superman suit back in 1986, could not think of anyone else.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone seen the documentary "The Death of Superman Lives" it's quite hilarious and a very interesting insight into Hollywood's machinations
DeleteI have, and I liked it so much I recorded it.Nick Cage as Superman...pretty wild.
DeleteArto. You saw Superman! Amazing! Chris made those flicks his own. I've never seen that doc MJ.
DeleteHe was so much taller than everyone else there at the Thorn EMI Elstree studios' canteen, during a break filming Superman IV.
Deleteha ha, I like that Arto. Supe should be tall!
DeleteChris for Superman, for me! But what about Clint as a version of Judge Dredd, Woodsy?
ReplyDeleteYes Tone, the Judge with no Name! ha ha. He'd spin his big judge pistol!
DeleteMy opinions;Redford, not buff enough,Clint, too gangly, long legs and arms,a little too old at the time.Sly could have pulled off the costume, yes, but there's no denying he would be too short.Rocky sported those platform boots on the streets, but they would have looked redic on a Superman costume.
ReplyDeleteI didn't realise that Sly was short. I suppose thinking about it Arnie would have been a contender. Or maybe Chuck Norris!
DeleteMost (if not all) of them were never really serious contenders. Had they been, the producers wouldn't have kept looking 'til they found Christopher Reeve.
ReplyDeleteSuppose so Kid. I imagine all the iconic roles we see had short lists. Luke Skywalker springs to mind. The guy from the the horror House movie was considered.
