This old cheapo cowpoke to my eye looks remarkably like Johnny West from Marx's Best of the West range. Would you agree?
I loved my Johnny back in the day and Chief Cherokee too.
Did you go West?

That's a lovely example, Woodsy. I had one of these Johnny West KO figures as a kid. My original was a blue version. I think he was also produced in green as well. Since then I've only seen distant tantalizing glimpses of this cheaply cool Hong Kong cowboy. He's still on my WANTED list. I'm still optimistic that one day I'll track a carded example of this desperado down :)
ReplyDeleteI thought you might have had one Tone. It does look great. I can't recall where I saved the pic from now. If I see another one I'll let you know. I also saw this cheapo Tonto on Ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/185304612965?hash=item2b25040065:g:aZEAAOSwRT1iCKi3
Deleteand this is unusual Tone, Bronco from Germany https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294757209352?hash=item44a0e61508:g:VMQAAOSwOc5fxZrj
DeleteThanks for the heads-up, Woodsy. I love all sorts of cheap vintage action figure KOs. They were always a colourful part of the backstory of the licensed figures we had :)
DeleteYour'e welcome Tone. Me too.
DeleteI've got Johnny West, Chief Cherokee, and three Thunderbolt Palomino horses, all by Marx. Then I've got Dapol's reissues, which were called Cowboy Kid, Cherokee Chief, a Palomino horse, and a white horse with black markings. Interestingly, Cherokee Chief still bears the Marx stamp, but not the cowboy (stamped Dapol) or horses. Cowboy Kid has a different head - one from Marx's Knights series, I believe.
ReplyDeleteFascinating stuff Kid, your collection always amazes me. I had no idea that Dapol were involved and looking them up I see that Marx reissued the series a few times - from 1997 onwards?
