Hey do you ever put off things like looking in old bags?
It's almost ten years since my father died and I had to clean out and sell off the family home we had for almost 50 years...
I have a bunch of stuff pulled out of the attic including college projects and stuff my mother saved. They've been sitting in my garage waiting for me to build up the courage to look.
Here's one my mother saved that may interest MC readers.
It's a 70s vintage Australian Myers bag, but inside is a collection of my childhood toys I didn't think even existed anymore!
A small teddy bear, with the fragments of a scarlet train driver's uniform my mother made for him. The bear has survived, but (moths?) Have reduced the clothes to powder.
A collection of die cast cars, mostly pre-Superfast Matchbox, but there's also Budgie and Husky models.
Britain's divers sets (remember how they were featured on MC this year?)
The missing camera man from my Corgi Samuelson's van.
A Rollykin World Cup Willie figure! Flat trees that I think are 60s Lego accessories.
I literally haven't seen this stuff in half a century, but almost every piece instantly brings back memories.
Given my initial reluctance to explore the bag, was it a time capsule or a time bomb?
Cheers,
Lewis

a simply beautiful find Looey! What a haul from the past and must have been a pleasure to discover.
ReplyDeleteLove those Lego trees! Have been trying to round up a set for my empty #230 Trees & Bushes box.
ReplyDeleteI bought the Matchbox showman's engine recently just because I like the look of it.
ReplyDeleteHours of fun in that bag!! What an excellent find. I'll bet even the old Myers bag might be worth a few bob....
ReplyDeleteCheers Tony P
Definitely a time capsule. everything in remarkably good condition too, apart from Teds clothes. I have those Britains divers, your octopus looks in much better state than mine!
ReplyDeleteAs with some plasticised toys, my octopus was unharmed but had actually welded itself into the styrene sandbar bases. When I pulled them apart, I had oozy grooves in the sandbars!

ReplyDeleteI had the Corgi Ski Club Citroen back in the '60s, and in the late '80s or early '90s, I bought the 1964 Winter Olympics Sports one. It came with two skiers, though it should only have had one. One skier has the number '1' on his back, the other doesn't. Can you tell me whether your skier does or not, so that I know for certain which skier came with which version of the car? Ta much.
ReplyDeleteHi Kid! My skier (missing one ski) has a white 1 on his back!
DeleteTa much, LPM. That means my one with the number must be for the corgi Ski Club version, and the one without for the 1964 Winter Olympics Sports one. I just couldn't remember whether the one I owned as a kid had a number or not.
DeleteA great collection, and all in excellent condition, apart from poor Ted. You were clearly careful with your toys.
ReplyDeleteAn absolute grab-bag of sheer joy!
