Hi
Found another interesting video on You Tube. This one is on the Lindberg Statue of Liberty kit. While that might not seem to be anything to do with Moonbase Central, the kit can be built as a money box, or bank, if you want to. Given that money boxes often appear, I thought it would be an unusual addition to the collection. There are very few kits that can be built this way, this being the only one I can think of.
Has anyone got anything like this?

Cool kit! I love the vintage iconic/historical building kits of the 1960s. I'm not sure, but I think that before Lindberg got it, that Statue of Liberty kit was originally issued by Educational Plastics, which also did two kits I did manage to snag back in the day, the Taj Mahal, and The United Nations. (Both of those were announced for reissue, but never actually released to my knowledge, by Glencoe Models in the 1990s.) The Statue of Liberty looks like a ton of fun to build!
ReplyDeleteThese historical building/world landmark kits have a long and interesting history. There have been at least three kits of the Statue of Liberty. This one was originally by Superior Plastics of Chicago. Then it went to Educational Products. Later issued by Revell, then Lindberg.
ReplyDeleteThe Taj Mahal was also a Superior kit, later re-issued by Educational. I am not sure about the United Nations Buildings. I think this might have been a Worcester Famous Building kit before it was issued by Superior, then Educational, then K-Line. Just not sure about what order these kits were issued. There were also kits of the Lincoln Memorial, and Yankee Stadium baseball arena.
Louis Marx and Company also had a few kits, and some of these were re-issued by Glencoe, about the 1990s.
You were very lucky to have had some of these kits. I have never even seen any of them in the flesh. Just pictures.
