Hi Woodsy thought this might be of interest. There's numerous scientific papers written about the cross colonisation of culture.
This video in it broadest sense shows the how eastern culture has taken on Western culture. That said I could watch this kind of bonkers all day long - the film is Attack from Space, Japan, 1965
I'm also not under the illusion this music came with the film, who ever put this on here deserves an Oscar, Best use of music in a motion picture!!
Do you agree?

POSTSCRIPT: Woodsy here: I couldn't help noticing how similar that old 1965 clip of Starman taking on an army from Attack from Space is to the playground fight scene in Matrix Reloaded between Neo and the many many Smiths [2003]!
Do I detect an inspiration here? What do you think?
Quite possible. The Watchowski Bros were BIG anime fans, you only have to watch their version of Speed Racer...
ReplyDeleteI was put off by the trailer (and the really fake CGI) but when I saw it, it was great! I think it was mis marketed.
I would have had a trailer opened with the usual stentorian voice
" From the minds behind Bound and The Matrix comes... (incredulous tone) a Kids movie?"
On reflection Starman's fighting style reminds me of Christian Bale's style in Chris Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy
DeleteNever seen Bound or Speed Racer. I've lived a sheltered life Looey!
DeleteI see what you mean about Batman Bale. I wonder how the Japanese would handle Batman action MJ?
DeleteAh, my favorite film series from the 1960s! Starman! (aka Super Giant). Starring Ken Utsui, who went on to a successful film career in Japan - and refuses to discuss his "Super Giant" days! Super Giant was a theatrical cliffhanger-style serial in Japan circa 1959, and Walter Manley Enterprises bought them, cobbled them together in 1965 into four incredible feature films: Atomic Rulers of the World, Attack from Space, Invaders from Space, and of course, the astounding Evil Brain From Outer Space. All are pure pulp-fiction gold. I had two of these suckers on 16mm film back in college, I loved 'em so much. As for the Wachowski Brothers, after what they did to Speed Racer, I will never "Wach" another frame of their output. Stick with the originals!
