I picked up a little tin of nik naks today at a car boot sale.
I love small tins and boxes of trinkets and tiny plastic things like this: charms, cake decorations and small toys. Fabulous!
I even like those small sewing repair kits!
I can imagine a SpaceX toy repair kit looking like this!
Grandmother Stover dolls house suppliers released the most fantastic little packages of plastic toys in the US in the 60's. We didn't have anything like them in the UK but I would have adored them as a kid, especially since some of the sets combined horror with gags.
We created a small bagged set of Project SWORD and related what-nots on the blog a few years back in 2012 and I think we sort of captured the spirit of little repair kits and Grandmother Stover!
Do you like small plastic sets of tiny toys and parts?
Absolutely. Cannot pass small plastic bits and bobs when sighted. There is an extra pleasure when found like you did, in a little tin or a used hobby kit box. At best untouched for years or decades, a child's little treasure box of trinkets, reflecting not only the time period but the little collector's interests as well. I sometimes preserve them as found, as little time capsules from the past.
ReplyDeleteLovely Arto, I like how you leave them intact. A fine gesture to the past and the future. Glad you like little things too.
DeleteI love your custom Bumper package!
ReplyDeleteCheers Looey, it was fun to make. I remember the first custom toy we made for the blog was an Imai die-cast Scramble Bug housed in a new miniature Project SWORD box. Hard to believe it was nearly 14 years ago!
DeleteYes, loved them as a kid, still like them- as the recipient of a SWORD bumper package I really appreciated it, and the contents are still on display on my workroom shelves.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Andy. Thanks for kind words.
DeleteAt my local Co-op there were miniature plastic kits in boxes, presumably just in case of a rainy day, I believe they were 1/144th scale, 3 in the range, I purchased an F-35 a few years ago, couldn't resist it!
ReplyDeleteha ha, that's the attraction of small things MJ! I've got some great stuff from our local coop years ago. Batman!
