An original rare vintage 1960's Tri-ang / Triang made ' Moon Rocket EXP-5 ' child's pedal car.
The only known example to exist. Plastic body in red and blue, with integral moulded seat. Based on a tricycle chassis, the steering operated via two levers.
The dash fitted with various leavers, buttons and faux-dials.
Tri-ang label to interior still remains. Wonderful example of a space-age pedal car. Measures approx. 114cm long. From a private collection of vintage pedal cars.
Wow. Straight out of Flash Gordon. If this is the only known example, was it a prototype that did not go in to production ?
ReplyDeleteI dunno Paul but it looks in completely mint condition. Someone has put a lot of effort into storing it safely. With all those levers and things I can imagine that not many of these would have survived intact had Tri-ang made a lot of them.
DeleteWowsers! Imagine finding Santa had dropped this beauty off for you Xmas morning! I know Triang did a large range of pedal cars (and pedal planes!), but havn't seen this one before. The autionhouse website says closing bid £600. Is this all it made? £1000+ is what I would have thought. I wonder if those levers make the lights etc come on?
ReplyDeleteGlad I didnt see it when it came up for sale 'cos I would have bought it! And then spent forever whimpering as I wouldn't fit in it!
It is a corker Timmy. I was blown away when I saw it. Like a fair ground ride with bells on! Yes, 600 seems too little for a piece of history. It would have looked good in a Gerry Anderson show like Fireball XL5 or Stingray!
