Here are a couple of online images from Yahoo Japan of their auctioned space kits lot [thanks Terry H].
Its a tasty dish of allsorts including Captain Scarlet, Angels, the Skyship 1 gondola and much more.
Some lucky collector also bagged the wondrous Lunar Transporter by Midori. Its the long silver vehicle below to the left.
I mean Wow! has anyone got one?
If someone one would only 3d scan these old classic Japan sci Fi vehicle kits. Their designs could be captured and 3d printed for future generations of fans....
ReplyDeleteGood idea Bob. Alas it won't be me as I don't have the skill or the printer.

DeleteActually, I disagree. These beautiful Japanese SF models were a special moment in time, and having somebody knock off 3D printed versions seems sort of a sacrilege. Besides, I'm against 3D printing on general principle. Leave plastic model manufacture to the experts! And I seriously doubt that "future generations of fans," having been weaned on Star Wars garbage, would appreciate the austere beauty of the fanciful Japan SF designs. Pearls before Swine, I say!
DeleteIn the case of the Lunar Transporter Zigg that should be pearls before slime!
DeleteCopyright, and lawyers would put a lot of people off. Who now owns the copyright to both the toy and the design, if it is from a movie or comic ? How much do they want for the rights ? I can see any modern reproductions ending up being very expensive, even if someone were willing to do it.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Reissuing any of these classic SF designs would be opening up a can of legal worms I'm sure nobody would want to tackle. Better to let these beauties rest in peace!
DeleteAh, the Lunar Transporter, from the film Battle Beyond the Stars (aka The Green Slime)! One of the rarest of the rare! Good haul, that!
