Whilst away last weekend we visited the beautiful seaside village of Alnmouth.
It was so peaceful I could have retired there on the spot!
The Missus and me snuggled down on the long beach, drank a fanta lemon and did some reading.
I took The Lizard's Tail with me, an old horror paperback. I say horror, its not really. Although its meant to be about an amputated hand, its more a study of loss in general and extremely well written by one Marc Brandel.
I looked him up and it turns out he wrote for a lot of the TV shows we've talked about on Moonbase! Danger Man, Burke's Law and Honey West to name a few.
The Lizard's Tail was made into a film called The Hand starring Michael Caine no less.
Anyone read the book or seen the film?
Seen the film, even reviewed it for the local newspaper back in the day. An early Oliver Stone directing job. Recall liking it quite a bit. The creeping hand was just chilling! I was an avid comic book fan at the time (still am) so that added an extra layer to my experience.
ReplyDeleteAmazing Arto. I must track it down on film. I'm 75% the way through the novel and the missing hand hasn't turned up yet! Was it in a comic book too?
DeleteDunno about that, but in the film Michael Caine played a comic book artist with a runaway hand, so I kinda related to that.
DeleteAh, I see what you mean Arto. Miguel is the comic character he draws in the book. The runaway hand... I like that expression! The best 'hand' film Ive seen was The Hands of Orlac. Brilliant!
DeleteThat photo could also be called The Woodsys Toe!
ReplyDeleteThat's the Missus'. I was impressed with the families huddled behind windbreaks on the beach. Just a few scattered around. It was windy that day.
