I was thinking about my 65th in five years or 70th in ten years and getting all excited at the thought of test driving a famous car for an hour, if I still have my license and my senses still!
Top of my list would be FAB1, but as there are only two [?] working examples in the world I doubt very much I could pretend to be Parker. Or?
Next would be a Batmobile from the 1966 series. I've no idea how many of these exists, including modern copies, but it seems more likely I could be Adam West for an hour. Or?
Last but not least would be an Aston Martin DB5 as featured in the early Bond films. Again I've no notion of how many exist but even a basic DB5 would be good and does seem feasible. Or?
There are a few runners-up: either of the two UFO cars, the Monkeemobile, the Black Beauty from Green Hornet, the Koach or Dragula from the Munsters, ECTO1 from the Ghostbusters and either Steve McQueen's 1968 Ford Mustang 390 GT 2+2 Fastback or the bad guys 1968 Dodge Charger 440 Magnum, both from Bullitt. Do any of these exist as hirable cars?
What would you drive for your birthday treat? What exciting cars have you driven or been in?
Pretty much the same as your list, except for the Bullitt cars. I would add Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, but I expect that the Corgi models are as close as I will ever come. The Lotus Esprit submarine car from the Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me. But the most useful would be the DeLorean time machine car from Back to the Future. You could go back in time and buy up armfuls of all the wonderful kits and die-casts that are now so rare and expensive that you could never afford them. The problem would be the very limited cargo space in the DeLorean, especially with the Flux Capacitor in the boot, so several trips would be necessary.
ReplyDeleteha ha, yes, time travel and toy collecting go together so well Paul. Vintage toys are a bit like time machines aren't they!
DeleteHow about the CMDF golf buggy from Fantastic Voyage?
ReplyDeleteNo idea what this is Looey sorry. Is it the Proteus?
DeleteI haven't driven any famous cars, but I've been behind the wheel of a Corvette or two,and once dated a girl who owned a Porsche and let me take it out whenever I wanted.Ive also tried a Harley Davidson and a Yamaha IT 490,both fast and powerful motorcycles.
ReplyDeleteWow, Corvettes. I'm well jeal! I adored my metallic green Corvette Stingray die-cast when I was a kid and I had another Corvette too, maybe with opening frog lamps. Wonderful toys. Your Porsche lady was very kind to give you free rein!
DeleteDave Carrington once owned a Porsche. It was a beautiful car. The same shade of red as the Spectrum cars and a similar shape to the Bond Aquacar. And boy could it go! We'd go for a spin on the M4, and joining the motorway, Dave would put it into third and pin us both back in our seats!!! - Great times.
ReplyDeleteha ha, sounds like Thunderbird 1 Bill, what a great image being pinned back on the M4!
DeleteThey're actually making new Aston Martin DB5s these days, but they cost well over a million quid and you're not allowed to drive them on the road as they all have the same (original) number plates. (You could on private grounds though.) They also have all the 'working' features except for the ejector seat.
ReplyDeleteIncredible Kid! A million quid! One for the richer bond fans that!
DeleteNice blogg
