Thought of one more Dinky Toy for that little post earlier. I was obsessed with this extra-cool split-level bus, because there was nothing remotely like it in the U.S. I had a bunch of toy buses, from Dinky, Corgi and others, but Dinky 280 was my absolute favorite!

A very nice model, but 'nothing remotely like it in the US' ? What about the famous GMC Scenicruiser bus ? The long distance Greyhound company, which operated transcontinental inter-city bus services across the US had a fleet of 1000 from the 1950s in to the 1970s - I have die-cast models by Matchbox, Lledo, and Fun Ho. This is my favourite bus of all time - even sleeker than the Dinky 280. Here are the Moonbase Central posts relating to the fictional Transcontinental Bus, and the real Scenicruiser. There have been a few other one and a half deck designs, and I also have an Oxford Diecast Commer Commando.

Yeh, I think the overrated Greyhound Scenicruiser is a pale shadow of this magnificent Maudley! I had several toy Scenicruisers, tin and die-cast, but they didn’t hold a candle to my Dinky Maudley. Actually, even as a kid I tended to gravitate towards European motor vehicle design over their American counterparts.
