Whilst checking for missing Christmas baubles I found our old portable black and white telly in the attic. A right blast from the analogue past!
It has a massive curved glass screen and huge behind, all topped off with an Area 51 style aerial! Classic three-channel heaven!
I turned it on hoping for an episode of Thunderbirds or Marine Boy for Christmas but all I got was snow!
Which Christmas TV programme would you liked to have seen on this old telly?
Anything recorded on JVC E-180 vhs tape.
ReplyDeleteha ha, yes, I still have some of those tapes with stiff recorded on them Kev! Adverts and all I expect! Have you still got some?
DeleteI used to have literally hundreds of tapes that I'd recorded. Haven't got any now, my library is all proper DVD'S now.
DeleteScrooge (the Alistair Sim version), which is on this Christmas anyway. I miss my old black & white and then colour portable. Happy times on a wet afternoon watching telly in the spare room while Mum and Dad watched on the big telly downstairs (only about 21 inches though not as big as the ones you get today!).
ReplyDeleteGreat memories those Yorkie. Yes, I love the Sim version of Scrooge. I've tried the George C. Scott version and Scrooged with Bill Murray. Its probably a Muppet Christmas Carol that comes second to the black and white classic. I don't think I had a telly in my room but then again I was 16 when my parents' home was sold. I never had a room as such after that.
DeleteSomething truly spooky and nostalgic about watching a creepy movie late at night on a black and white TV, during meteorological conditions which made the picture “snowy.” It was like watching ghosts from another dimension.
ReplyDeleteyes, monochrome horror. can't be beaten. I have a vivid memory of watching The Ghost Train with Arther Askey one Christmas on out big black and white TV in the lounge when I was about 15. I was on the floor either on scatter cushions or with my head propped up in my hands. I can see that ghostly steamer now Zigg. Funny how Christmasses from our childhood bring on teary eyes. They seem to encapsulate the magic of childhood.
DeleteDisney Time. Although it was on 4 times a year, the xmas one always seemed special. As visits to the cinemabob were few and far between for a young Timmy, this was the only chance I had of seeing Disney goodies.
DeleteDisney time was just great Timmy. I loved it at Easter.
