On one of my many missions into the depths of my our attic I found this I'd stashed away.
Its an old video cassette game for the 48K Spectrum. I picked it up years and years ago for the Hobbit connection and the artwork, which I really like.
Sadly the video game side of it completely goes over my head as the craze just passed me by. I've never played a Spectrum or any other computer game.
Have you ever played the Hobbit readers?
I can confess to playing The Hobbit on my brother's Speccy. It forever to load and was aweful. Evertime you died it was back to the start you went. Got as far as Gollum and his riddly-diddlying "What goes on 4 legs in the morning, 2 legs in the afternoon and 3 legs at night?". Well a baby goes on 4, a man/woman on 2 and an oldyperson on 3. No matter what I put in as the answer (man, human, person ad nauseum) I got gobbled and back to start. Gave up. Bah humbug! By 1987 I was playing Zork, and various MUDs, most notably AberMUD on the JANET network.
ReplyDeleteha ha Speccy. Love that Timmy. My nickname too, Specky Four Eyes, later shortened to the much cooler Spex! The game sounds painful but then again it was early on wasn't it. I had to howl at your expression, riddly-diddyling! Ha ha!
