Hi Woodsy,
As promised, here are a couple of photos of my Sanitarium Miner figure from 1962. This is from the same series of breakfast cereal toys as the three brown figures in your recent post What A Figure. This was one of a set. The site you listed
shows eight figures, four European settlers and soldiers, and four Maoris, all from the 19th Century. My figure is apparently a Miner from the Otago Goldrush. Each figure was available in several colours, the ones in the photo are blue, green, pink, orange, red, and brown.
My Miner is orange, and is holding a hammer. He is wearing a waistcoat, and his sleeves are rolled up.He has a pointed 'lemon squeezer' type hat, and a full beard. Height is 65 mm. The figure is very shallow - the base is only 10 mm deep, and the figure itself about 7 mm. He is also showing some signs of wear, but not too bad for his age.
Yours Sincerely,
Paul Adams from New Zealand
Why a 'Sanitarium' Miner Paul ?
ReplyDeleteMish.
It's the make of cereal they were given away with, Mish
ReplyDeleteLink isn't working for me?
H
Sorry H. Blogger's drivin me nuts with links. It converts them all into a link to my blog dashboard! A pain in the hintern! I've sorted this one.
DeleteNice! Sanitatarium was the last breakfast cereal brand in Australia to offer physical premiums after Kellogg and the others stopped for price reasons.
ReplyDeleteI remember collecting a series of Sanitarium birds in my late teens/early 20s.
I should add that I think Kellogg did offer a light-up miniature light sabre for I think Star Wars Ep 3 (correct me) bit ot was only found inside one in three packages, which i thought was really cheating and not a good lesson for kiddies!
Fascinating Looey. That light sabre sounds interesting. Were they these? https://forum.rebelscum.com/threads/europes-kelloggs-promotion.901386/
DeleteThe Sanitarium Health Food Company has been making breakfast cereals and other products for over a century. Here is a brief history of the company from their website:
